Culture Embossed is a crowdsourced database of wine bottle seals from a wide array of time periods and locations. The map, gallery, and database allow researchers of all backgrounds to easily study these culturally significant artifacts.
Wine bottle seals may be small, but they're not insignificant. They provide a window into the world in which the seals were made and purchased, as well as insight into the person who purchased them.
This database is crowdsourced, which means that the data comes from you. If you have wine bottle seals from an archaeological or a museum collection, please add them to the Culture Embossed database by filling out a short form.
The Collections Management Committee of the Council of Virginia Archaeologists, the Commonwealth's professional archaeology organization, created Culture Embossed to collect, disseminate, and promote research on wine bottle seals.
